Our Lady of EDSA Shrine
The shrine is very nice its has the statue on top of the shrine so that it’s easy to see.
The landscape of the shrine is very green it matches the landscaping of the shine. For me I cannot say anything, anymore in this structure because I never been in this place but I research about edsa shrine. It is officially called the "Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace" or "Our Lady of Peace Quasi-Parish", but the formal name is Shrine of Mary, Queen of Peace although these names are seldom used. And I research it’s “vision”, is A community of Christian servant-leaders that advocates love, peace, truth and unity, inspired by Mary, Queen of Peace, Our Lady of EDSA. It was a small Catholic Church located in the intersection of Ortigas Avenue and Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). Built in 1989 to commemorate the EDSA Revolution, which toppled the then Philippine President, Ferdinand Marcos, people also gathered once more to oust another Philippine President Joseph Estrada in 2001 and on the rooftop of the shrine, people can see sculptures of the Stations of the Cross created by the National Artist Napoleon Abueva. Its mere place is a testament to its strength, is quite apart from its well-known moniker, which is of course EDSA Shrine. The place not only stands as a place for worship but primarily as a commemoration of the two people power that was witnessed on that very ground. Despite the noises outside, the interior has a curious serene atmosphere. Believer or non-believer, one cannot ignore that it has a place in our history.
The Statue of Mary triggered a minor controversy when it was first unveiled in 1989 due to its mammoth proportions, and what its detractors say the lack of ‘gracefulnesses in terms of line. It earned the humorous nickname ‘Daing Lady’ probably due to its shape that recalls the daing or dried fish, a fish staple for many low-income Filipinos. The EDSA Shrine is part of the Ortigas Center, a complex of office buildings and commercial centers that occupy large tracts of land in portions of Quezon City
The idea for the Shrine came to be from the mind of His Eminence Cardinal Jaime Sin. Accompanied by Bishop Reyes, they were driving past the site when Reyes pointed out that that was where young men and women, both of and not of the cloth, faced tanks and soldiers with prayers and flowers. They then glanced at a neighboring billboard containing the image of the Virgin Mary and such slogans as “The family that prays together stays together” and “A world at prayer is a world at peace”, realizing the role the Virgin Mary played on those two fateful days. It led them to think about the role she played in “La Naval de Manila” and the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1751. Both participants in the EDSAs and the battles faced overwhelming odds with the help and guidance of the Virgin Mary.
